Founder Story & History of ZPE

Zazula Process Equipment is proud to be celebrating our 60th anniversary of business. The longevity and  success Zazula has shared with employees and clients, is all based on the efforts of the company’s founder – Stanley Zazula.

Stanley (Stan) Zazula, was raised on a farm in north central Alberta. As a young man, his love for anything mechanical grew into his passion. After graduating high school in Calgary, Stan found a need to further his technical education. He attended Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) to study Auto Mechanics, Boiler Engineering and Machine Shop & Welding, all of which fields he worked in…

While firing boilers in a Drumheller coal mine, Stan found himself craving more education which led him to the Facility of Engineering at the University of Alberta for one year. He then transferred to the University of British Columbia where he graduated in 1955 with honours and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Stan took a job in Calgary with Shell Oil to gain a few years of drilling experience. During this time, Stan was introduced to many companies and several are the equipment lines we represent today; Milton Roy, Busch and Smith & Loveless. He played an integral role in establishing a successful business in the process equipment sector.

In 1960, Stan rented his first office space on 17th Avenue and in 1963 Zazula Process Equipment Ltd. was born. After it’s initial 14 years of incremental growth,  business determined that Zazula Process Equipment evole into a larger facility…

So in 1974, Stan purchased 2 homes on 10th Avenue in S.W. Calgary to facilitate the next phase of growth.  A shop was later added to the back of the buildings in 1980 so that Zazula Process Equipment Ltd. could continue to operate and succeed for the next 37 years.

In 2011, it was necessary for the Zazula’s growing business to once again evolve into a more robust facility to handle the ever increasing project demands and fabrication requirements of complex projects it’s customers brought to the company. The current address of 4609 Manitoba Rd S.E. was purchased, a 18,000 sq ft facility was built and the rest is history – 60 years of history!

Sadly Stan passed away in 2016, and Zazula’s future is now in the hands of  his son’s, Kerry and Yuri. They have the vision to carry the Zazula name, its strong tradition of sound engineering and fabrication, loyal customer service, and continuing to represent premier equipment lines. The future holds well as additional products are positioned to find their way into the ZPE lineup for many years to come.

Zazula Process Equipment Ltd. has grown from one man’s dream and dedication, to a thriving Alberta based company Servicing Canadian Industry for many years to come!
